Summary

I wrote Walking with Ghosts the same day of a layoff at my company in 2001.

In the eyes of your friends

Is the dull, caustic glaze

Of reciprocal pain

And utter lack of recognition

Felt in the aftermath

Of an executive decision

The halls echo of fading camaraderie

As though the exodus were a celebration

And with adequate spin

Logic is diverted

For the duration of the meeting

In which came formal clarity

The list of names was short

But affects the entire team

The news calls it a downturn

But they were casualties

Walking amidst the ghosts

At a loss to surpass the shock
